Allstate Sugar Bowl announces this week’s Manning Award Futures

Four Nola area QBs honored as Quarterbacks of the Week; fans can vote for favorite on Twitter

NEW ORLEANS – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week’s Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. Fans now have the opportunity to go to Twitter (@SugarBowlNola) to vote for their favorite performance of the week.

The Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis, was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.

Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 9/27/21:

Jai Eugene, Jr., Destrehan High School (6-of-7, 153 Total Yards, 2 TDs)

Eugene, who rested much of the second half of the blowout victory, passed for 103 yards and a touchdown while rushing nine times for 50 yards and another score in a season-opening 42-7 win over rival Hahnville.

Royal Falgout, John Ehret High School (15-of-22, 505 Total Yards, 5 TDs)

Falgout passes for 303 yards and four touchdowns while running for another 202 yards and a score to lead the Patriots to a 43-28 win over West Jefferson.

Jaden McCall, Lakeshore High School (11-of-24, 286 Total Yards, 6 TDs)

Making his first start this year, McCall passed for 249 yards and ran for 37 more to lead the Titans to a 59-20 win over Bogalusa.

Ray Ruffin, Helen Cox High School (4-of-9, 199 Total Yards, 4 TDs)

Ruffin had nine rushes for 125 yards while passing for 74 yards and tallying four touchdowns to lead his team to a 26-7 victory over John F. Kennedy.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 99 Hall of Fame players, 51 Hall of Fame coaches and 19 Heisman Trophy winners in its 87-year history. The 88th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will feature top teams from the Big 12 and the SEC, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2022.
