The Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis, was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. For the past decade, the Sugar Bowl and the Manning Award have recognized top collegiate quarterbacks on a weekly basis.

Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 12/7/20:

Marcus Jackson, East. St. John (6-of-15, 54 yards, 1 TD)
Jackson, who ran 10 times for 145 yards and a touchdown, also booted the successful on-sides kick with just over a minute to go as the 18th-seed Wildcats upset previously undefeated John Ehret, 19-17, to advance to the LHSAA Class 5A quarterfinals – their first trip out of the second round since 2006.

Garrett Mmahat, Brother Martin (11-of-19, 250 yards, 1 TD)
Mmahat, who also ran for 85 yards, capped a solid game by scrambling nine yards for the game-winning touchdown as the top-seeded Crusaders defeated Jesuit, 36-34, in the LHSAA Division I quarterfinals.

AJ Samuel, Edna Karr (11-of-14, 288 yards, 5 TDs)
Samuel, who added a 21-yard rushing touchdown, tallied all of his touchdowns in the first half as the Cougars rolled to a 70-19 victory over Istrouma in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.

DeVon Tott, Mandeville (12-of-23, 220 yards, 1 TD)
Tott also rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries as he guided the eighth-seeded Skippers to a 31-8 victory over No. 9 Gonzales to advance to the quarterfinals of the LHSAA Class 5A state tournament.

Country Day’s Dawson Simmons was last week’s top Manning Award Futures vote-getter. Simmons, a freshman, completed 6-of-13 passes for 180 yards and a touchdown while also running for 90 yards and two more touchdowns, as he led the Cajuns to a 24-10 win over St. Mary’s in the first round of the LHSAA Division IV playoffs.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 97 Hall of Fame players, 50 Hall of Fame coaches and 18 Heisman Trophy winners in its 86-year history.
