Allstate Sugar Bowl announces First Manning Award Futures for 2021

NEW ORLEANS – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week’s Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. Fans now have the opportunity to go to Twitter (@SugarBowlNola) to vote for their favorite performance of the week.

The Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis, was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.

Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 9/20/21:

Jack Buell, Northshore (10-of-18, 219 yards, 1 TD)
One week after passing for four TDs, Buell continues his big-play propensity, completing six passes for 14 or more yards, including a 73-yard TD connection to get this started as the Panthers open a season 2-0 for the first time since 2013 with a 31-10 win over Lakeshore on Friday night.

Cole Canatella, Holy Cross (2-of-2, 66 yards, 2 TDs)
Canatella, who throws TD passes of 34 yards and 32 yards, also runs 18 times for 94 yards and a touchdown in Friday’s 27-10 win over Chalmette.

Arch Manning, Newman (18-of-34, 256 yards, 3 TDs)
Manning opens his junior season with an impressive performance, throwing 34 times with no interceptions while running for 49 yards and a TD as the Greenies top Vandebilt Catholic, 28-0, on Friday at Lupin Field.

Damyren Washington, Booker T. Washington (3-of-4, 4 yards)
In his first start as a quarterback, Washington, a sophomore, ran 17 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Lions to a 24-8 victory over McMain on Thursday at Pan Am Stadium.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 99 Hall of Fame players, 51 Hall of Fame coaches and 19 Heisman Trophy winners in its 87-year history. The 88th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will feature top teams from the Big 12 and the SEC, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2022. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting over $2.7 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
