Al-Amin of New Orleans, Hassan of Nicholls net Southland Tennis Player of the Week awards
FRISCO, Texas – Karim Al-Amin of New Orleans and Dareen Hassan of Nicholls are the Southland Conference Tennis Players of the Week for the ninth week of the Spring 2023 season, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Men’s Player of the Week: Karim Al-Amin, New Orleans – Fr. – Waltrop, Germany
Al-Amin went 2-0 as the Privateers handed NJIT just their second loss of the season. In doubles, Al-Amin and Matthew Armbruster persevered in a tiebreak to win 7-6 (5). Al-Amin carried that momentum to singles where he won in straight sets 7-6 (5), 6-3 to move his record to 9-2 on the year.
Women’s Player of the Week: Dareen Hassan, Nicholls – Jr. – Cairo, Egypt
Hassan led the Colonels to three straight victories over league members Bryant, NJIT and New Orleans. She was perfect at No. 3 singles with a 3-0 mark and also went 2-1 in doubles. Hassan earned straight-set victories against Bryant and NJIT and her three-setter against New Orleans in the Southland opener tied the match at 3-3. She has been impressive in her first season as a Colonel, posting a 10-4 record in singles.
