Adarius Myers named LSWA Hitter of the Week
RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech outfielder Adarius Myers was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Hitter of the Week following a 5-for-8 weekend at the plate against UAB.
Myers led the Bulldogs in a plethora of offensive categories over the weekend in LA Tech’s series victory at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. The Seminary, Mississippi native batted .625 (5-for-8) and tallied two home runs, a team-high 11 total bases, six RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base on one attempt against the Blazers.
Myers, one of Tech’s usual top right-handed bats off the bench, earned his way into the starting lineup three times this past weekend, launching homers in game one and game four of the series, both of which the Bulldogs won by six runs or more. The left fielder crushed his first homer of the weekend in Tech’s 16-1 rout of UAB on Thursday, registering the Bulldogs’ third three-run home run of the ballgame. The homer came in pinch-hit variety, marking the first time since 2018 a Bulldog had come off the bench to record a home run.
Myers tacked on two more runs batted in in game one of Friday’s doubleheader, blasting a hard-hit grounder past UAB’s third baseman for a two-RBI single to extend Tech’s lead from 4-3 to 6-3 in the fifth. Myers capped off the weekend with his second homer of the season, lifting a 3-1 pitch over the wall in left field for a solo home run.
Myers’ stellar weekend at the plate helped him raise his batting average above .300 midway through LA Tech’s 2021 regular season campaign. The No. 16 Bulldogs are 20-7 and 6-2 in Conference USA. Myers and the Bulldogs will travel to Houston this weekend for a four-game series against the Rice Owls at Reckling Park.
