A.J. Brown, Many run past Northeast in Class 2A quarterfinals
PRIDE, La. – The Many Tigers used strong run game Friday night to advance to the Class 2A semi-finals with a 49-20 romp over the home standing Northeast Vikings.
Just two short years ago, Many won the school’s first state football championship and, much like that year, it included a state playoff victory over the Vikings.
UCLA commitment A.J. Carter amassed 326 rush yards and four touchdowns while Shacori Collier added 126 yards and a pair of scores for No. 4 seeded Many (11-2).
“We’ve got two bulls back there at running back,” Many coach Jess Curtis said. “And our offensive line, those guys are smart and they’re weight room guys. Its tough to get in front of that for four quarters.”
The Tigers will play at top-seeded Welsh, a 44-14 winner over Kinder, next Friday.
Northeast (7-5) was led by Chris Keaton’s 116 yards and two touchdowns.
“We knew after watching them on the first drive, we’re overmatched,” said Northeast coach David Masterson. “Many has it all.”
The Vikings trailed 29-8 at the half after Many crafted four scoring drives spanning 80, 98, 79 and 86 yards each.
After Northeast put together a 61 yard drive cutting the Many lead to 29-14 early in the third quarter, Carter broke loose for a 64-yard touchdown run to all but the ice game.
“You’re only going to bottle up a great running back so many times,” Masterson said. “(Carter) broke some runs that really kind of put it away.”
