2022 Byrd Football Game Notes – Game #1 vs. Pleasant Grove Hawks

On Friday, Sept. 2, the Byrd Yellow Jackets will open the 2022 season with the Pleasant Grove Hawks. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Kickoff for the season opener is set for 7 p.m. at Lee Hedges Stadium.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE TEAMS
The Byrd Yellow Jackets finished the 2021 season with a 9-2 overall record after losing 45-14 to the Brother Martin Crusaders in the Division I quarterfinals. Byrd captured a share of the 2021 District 1-5A title with a 6-1 record and were the No. 3 seed in the Div. I Playoffs.

It was the second straight district championship for the Jackets, and the first for head coach Stacy Ballew. The Yellow Jackets return seven starters on offense and five starters on defense. Pleasant Grove posted an 8-6 record in 2021. The Hawks lost 36-15 to district rival Gilmer in the regional finals of the Texas Class 4A, Div. II playoffs. Pleasant Grove won Class 4A, Div. II State Championships in 2017 and 2019.
