2019 Preseason All-Louisiana College Football teams

Joe Burrow

There is an abundance of talent playing college football in Louisiana on all levels. Most observers are familiar with their favorite team from the Pelican state, but there are many top rated players spread around within the borders.

Here’s a preseason list of the state’s best:
1st team offense
QB-Joe Burrow (6-4, 220) LSU senior, no surprise pick. He threw for 3,181 yards (57%) for 18 scores and 5 interceptions , also ran for 399 yards, 7 TD’s. Fiesta Bowl MVP. New RPO offense should enhance his ability to make plays, stats will jump.
RB-Elijah Mitchell (5-11, 221) ULL junior, 985 yards (6.7 per carry) 13 TD’s , had 3 TD’s vs. South Alabama in ’18, 136 yards vs. Georgia St.
RB-Darius Bradwell (6-1, 230) Tulane senior, 1,134 yards (5.0) 1 TD’s, converted QB since he arrived in ’17, 150 yds. 2 td’s in Cure Bowl
RB-Clyde Edwards-Helaire (5-9, 212) LSU junior, 658 yards (4.5) 7 TD’s. Will be afforded more opportunities as playmaker in space and as receiver. Versatile, squirts through hole. Was 4 year starter at Catholic High (B.R.)
WR-Darnell Mooney (5-11, 175) Tulane senior had 48 grabs, 993 yards, 8 TD’s in 2018. Career 33 starts. Had 6 catches for 217 yards and 2 TD’s vs. East Carolina in ’18.
WR-Austin Hardy (6-2, 193) La.Tech junior w/ 75 for 1,145 yards (15.3 yards) 6 TD’s Born in New Orleans before moving to Houston.
WR-Justin Jefferson (6-2, 185) LSU junior w/ 54-875 yards, 6 TD’s has become sure handed, polished SEC receiver, Could be high ’20 NFL draft pick.
TE-Stephen Sullivan (6-7, 232) LSU senior w/ 23-363 yards, 2 TD’s. Converted WR to TE, causes mismatches from end of LOS or split wide. Big, physical with dependable hands. Will be big part of offense this season.
OL-Lloyd Cushenberry (6-4, 309) LSU junior, 13 starts in ’18. Dependable, one of better centers in SEC, anchor of Tigers’ O-line
OL-Saahdiq Charles (6-5, 305) LSU junior, 23 starts, his progression will dictate how LSU can run successfully. New Orleans native who moved to Mississippi.
OL-Kevin Dotson (6-4, 315) ULL senior, tough, mean, trench warfare, 36 starts
OL-Gewhite Stallworth (6-8, 322) La. Tech senior, great upside, just scratched surface.
OL-Robert Hunt (6-5, 336) ULL senior, 33 starts, light on his feet, can dominate, was outstanding basketball , 19 pts., 11 rebounds

1st team Defense
DL-Patrick Johnson (6-3, 235) Tulane junior, 49 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 5 TFL. Great pass rusher
DL-Rashard Lawrence (6-3, 317) LSU senior, 54 stops, 4 sacks, 6.5 TFL, is NFL ready
DL-Breiden Fehoko (6-3, 291) LSU senior, hurt at end of ’18, versatile enough to play anywhere along D-Line
DL-Glen Logan (6-4, 300) LSU junior, 46 tackles, 4 sacks in ’18. Former Destrehan star has super take off, much improved.
LB-K’Lavon Chaisson (6-4, 238) LSU sophomore, injured all of ’18. Freakish skills, game changing ability, could be 1st round pick ’20 draft
LB-Michael Divinity (6-2, 238) LSU senior leader of Tiger defense, 54 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 5 sacks. Will take over for Devin White.
LB-Jacob Phillips (6-4, 230) LSU junior, downhill , bruising tackler , 87 stops, 4.5 TFL , 1 interception in ’18.
DB-Grant Delpit (6-3, 205) LSU junior, think of Jamal Adams, Eric Reid and Tyrann Mathieu, 74 stops, 5 sacks, 5 interceptions, 4 TFL, 9 PBU
DB-Kristian Fulton (6-0-192) LSU junior, 25 stops, 9 PBU, 1 interception, 1st round NFL talent
DB-Amik Robertson (5-9, 180) La. Tech junior, 61 tackles, 1 sack, 6.5 TFL, 4 interceptions, 12 PBU, could be among top 2-3 players in entire state.
DB-Derek Stingley, Jr. (6-1, 195) LSU freshman…a freshman, you say? Yeah, he’s that good.

2nd team offense
QB-Chase Fourcade (6-0, 200) Nicholls senior, 22-13 record as a four-year starter, already holding school record for most passing yards. with six more touchdowns, he will own that record as well. Had 2,930 yards, 21 TD’s, 8 interceptions ran for 659 yards and 13 TD’s in ’18
RB-Dontrell Taylor (5-9, 180) Nicholls senior, 990 yards (7.2 yds.) 9 TD’s Extra gear, YAC, stop and start runner.4.5 speed.

RB-Trey Ragas (5-11, 227) ULL junior, 1,181 yards (5.7) 8 TD’s in ’18. Terrific runner inside or out. Great burst.
RB-Jaqwis Dancy (5-11, 214) La. Tech senior, 657 yards (5.4) 9 TD’s. Got bigger and stronger, big play power, HR threat.
WR-Jalen McCleskey (5-10, 170) Tulane senior, Oklahoma State transfer where he had 167 ctaches for 1,865 yards and 17 TD’s, which is 6th all time at Okla. State. Might be best route runner in AAC, super hands, excellent routes.
WR-DaiJean Dixon (6-4, 200) Nicholls junior, 4.45 forty, 53 catches, 753 yards 7 TD’s. Super catching radius, makes tough catches. Had 4 grabs for 112 yards vs. Tulane. The Edna Karr product is cousin of LSU, Falcons LB Deion Jones.
WR-Terrace Marshall (6-4, 209) #1 prospect in La. in La. recruiting class., Wait until you see him this season ! Off the charts. Has made tremendous strides. Injury in senior year of high school impeded his progress. NFL size. His uncle, late RB Joe DeLaney.
TE-Brain Schwebel (6-5, 245) SLU senior, former Amite Warrior has fine tuned his skills as receiver and blocker. Had 30 catches for 484 yards and 3 TD’s in ’18. Very physical.
OL-Ed Ingram (6-4-314) LSU junior, I would be very surprised if he isn’t reinstated. One of top freshman in country in ’17. Starter as freshman.
OL-Damien Lewis (6-3-322) LSU senior, a mauler, 13 starts in ’18. With 635 lbs. squat and 500 lbs. bench press, one of strongest on team. A Dean’s list student.
OL-Corey Dublin (6-4, 310) Tulane junior, twice heavyweight state champion wrestler at Jesuit. 4 year starter in H.S., 25 statrs at Tulane, where he started as freshman.
OL-Bobby Reynolds (6-2, 281) ULM senior, technician, balance, leverage, H.S. state wrestling champion.
OL-Badara Traore (6-7, 323) LSU senior, Diligent work this off season, transformed body, more confident and relaxed, Massive power.

2nd team defense
DL-Willie Baker (6-3, 250) La. Tech junior, 2018 had 11 TFL and 7 sacks. Super off the edge.
DL-Zi’Yon Hill (6-2, 286) ULL sophomore, 44 tackles, 1 sacks in ’18. superb hands, great quickness, instinctive. Much improved.
DL-Bennie Higgins (6-0, 276) ULL senior, 58 stops, 4 sacks, 3 TFL, controls middle of Cajun D-LIne
DL-Sully Laiche (6-2, 270) Nicholls senior, 46 tackles , 17 TFL, 8.5 sacks in 2018, For career, 132 stops, 25.5 sacks, 39.5 TFL. Opponents must game plan him.
LB-Jacques Boudreaux (6-1, 229) ULL senior, 93 stops, 2 sacks, 3.5 TFL , 3 PBU in ’18. While at Holy Cross had 211 stops last 2 years.
LB-Patrick Quenn (6-2, 232) LSU junior, 40 tackles, 4 TFL in ’18. Will have expanded role this season.
LB-Collin Scott (6-0, 232) La. Tech senior, 87 tackles, 5 TFL, 4 sacks in ’18. Sideline to sideline
DB-Hayden Bourgeois (5-11, 184) Northwestern State junior, 82 stops , 5 TFL, 5 interceptions in ’18. A violent tackler. Ex. Notre Dame H.S.
DB-Khristian Mims (6-0, 180) Nicholls senior, former walk-on. 76 stops, 2 intercepts, 8 tackles vs. Tulane in ’18.
DB-Darryl Lewis (5-11, 212) La. Tech senior, 66 Tackles, 4 TFL, 2 intercepts.
DB-Michael Jacquet (6-2, 195) ULL senior, NFL skills, 47 stops, 9 PBU, 2 interceptions.

3rd team offense
QB-Caleb Evans (6-2, 210) ULM senior, 2,869 yards passing, 61.8%, 16 TD’s, 12 interceptions in ’18 Also ran for 632 yards (4.5) 10 touchdown.Career 6, 581 passing yards , 37 TD’s, 24 intercepts.
RB-John Emery (6-0, 210) LSU freshman, had 1,693 yards as senior at Destrehan. One of top freshman RB’s in country. Will be given ample opportunity to excel.
RB-Corey Dauphine (6-0, 200) Tulane senior, 785 yards (6.3) 7 TD’s A home run threat with the ball. Blazing speed.
RB-Jared West (5-10, 187) Northwestern State senior, 4.5 speed. 735 yards, 4 TD’s, 24 catches in ’18. The Brother Martin product has super work ethic, terrific balane.
WR-Ja’ Marr Chase (6-1, 205) LSU sophomore, skills well suited for Tigers’ 2019 offense. Will be utilized to assortment of ways.
WR-Ja’ Marcus Bradley (6-1, 196) ULL senior, 40 catches, 608 yards (15.2 ) 10 touchdowns
WR-Juwan Petit Frere (5’7-170) SLU senior, 4.4 forty. Quick as a cheetah, developed from just dangerous KR to soild WR. 50 catches, 802 yards, 5 TD’s in ’18, 26.2 KR average.
TE-Josh Peterson (6-5, 228) ULM junior, can run block with the best of ’em. Good in short passing game. Dad (Doug) was QB in NFL 12 years, now head coach Philadelphia Eagles.
OL-Jodeci Harris (6-7, 335) Southern senior leader on Jaguar O-Line
OL-T.J. Fialoa (6-4, 360) ULM junior, Drives opponent. Cousin of former Dallas Cowboy Mark Tunei, won 3 Super Bowls.
OL-Grant Burguillos (6-4, 281) Mc Neese senior, Mandeville High product who runs a sub 5.0 forty. Super feet, mean streak, scrappy battler, 3 year starter.
OL-Devin Jackson (6-3, 354) ULM senior Was twice All State at Edna Karr. Cousin of Raion Hill, LSU, NFL.
OL-Ethan Reed (6-4, 295) La. Tech senior, was a freshman All-American in ’16. Career includes 40 starts, high IQ, can play all along O-Line.

3rd team Defense
DL-Tyler Shelvin (6-3, 342) LSU sophomore, melted off some lbs. and should be quicker, endurance improved.
DL-Chauncey Manac (6-3, 252) ULL junior, Georgia transfer, highly recruited 4 star signee.
DL-Isaac Adeyemi- Berglund (6-3, 235) SLU junior, hot motor, pass ruher, bends edge, 6 tackles vs. LSU, 12 stops against Incarnate Word.
DL-Chris Livings (6-2, 210) McNeese senior, 4.9 forty, relentless, trains hard. 10.5 TFL, 8 sacks in ’18.
LB-Marvin Moody (6-2, 225) Tulane junior, 71 stops, 4.5 TFL in ’18. Had 10 tackles vs. Navy.
LB-Julius Johnson (5-9, 203) Louisiana College junior, 86 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 5 PBU. Another ” Field Mouse ” (Sam Mills), 3 double digit tackle games last season.
LB-James Jackson (5-11, 210) La. Tech senior, 74 stops, 2.5 sacks, 6 TFL in ’18.
DB-Jacoby Stevens (6-2, 225) LSU junior, 35 tackles, 5 TFL, 1 interception. A light came on last season; this guy can be special.
DB-Cory McCoy (5-10, 178) McNeese junior, 59 tackles, 4 TFL, 8 PBU. 4.4 forty. Bright future, cover skills.
DB-Joseph McWilliams (5-11, 175) Grambling junior, among best cover CB’s in SWAC. 4 interceptions in 2018.
DB-Colby Burton (5-10, 190) McNeese junior, 4.55 forty. 31 tackles, 2 interceptions, 8 PBU, Hips, superb technique.
