NEW ORLEANS – The First Tee of Greater New Orleans hosted its 14th Annual Golf Classic on Tuesday, September 24th at City Park Bayou Oaks South Course to raise money for its character education, life skills and healthy habits programs for local school-aged youth. Walmart has served as the event’s Title Sponsor for the past 10 years and this year’s event raised over $115,000 for The First Tee.

The event included a double shotgun, 18-hole scramble with morning and afternoon rounds that featured over 50 corporate sponsored teams participating. The winning team in the morning round was Slap Ya Mama. The winning team in the afternoon round came from PricewaterhouseCoopers.

In addition to Walmart, the event featured Cart Sponsor, Crucial, Inc., Practice Area Sponsor, Republic National Distributing Co., Long-Drive and Closest to the Pin competitions sponsored by Acme Oyster House, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Loft18, Raising Canes, Slap Ya Mama and Utz Snacks, and a Hole-in-One competition sponsored by Honda of Slidell. The Awards Reception was sponsored by Bud Light and Beverage Sponsors included Coca-Cola and Tito’s Vodka. On course Youth Sponsors included Cox, iHeartRadio, Pepsi and Wells Fargo.

The Golf Classic is part of The First Tee’s annual campaign to raise funds to promote and support their character education programs for school-aged youth; to expand programs to additional golf facilities and schools; and to ensure access to scholarships for under-served students.

“Our First Tee Golf Classic is an important annual event to help support our students,” First Tee Executive Director, Chip Patterson, said. “Thanks to the generosity of Walmart and our local business community, we’re able to make a significant difference in the ability of students to access high-quality youth development programs during after-school hours, weekends and summer months.”

The First Tee of Greater New Orleans is celebrating its 15th anniversary and currently impacts more than 30,000 young people in the community through its life skills and golf programs. Youth and teens are introduced to the lifelong sport of golf, while learning life skills such as goal setting, managing emotions and resolving conflicts. The program emphasizes Nine Core Values that include confidence, responsibility, respect, honesty, judgment, perseverance, sportsmanship, integrity and courtesy.
