Jesuit vs Holy Cross football

NEW ORLEANS – One hundred years ago Wednesday, Jesuit and Holy Cross met for the first time in football, and the Blue Jays and Tigers have met every year since. The longest continuous football series in Louisiana resumes Friday night, and once again, Crescent City Sports will once again broadcast the game live.

The 103rd all-time meeting of the matchup known simply as “The Rivalry” kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tad Gormley Stadium, with CCS’ coverage beginning at 7:20. Ken Berthelot and Wayde Keiser will describe the action.

In addition to the live stream, the game will be rebroadcast on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. on YurView (Cox Communications channel 4 in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette).

In spite of war, hurricanes and pandemics, the series has maintained its continuity. Jesuit leads the all-time series 60-40-1, with the 1937 game ruled “no contest.” The Blue Jays have won the last four meetings and could match the second-longest winning streak in the series with a victory Friday.

The annual matchup is much more than a 48-minute game. It features pregame tailgates hosted by both schools, a parade featuring bands and cheer squads, and recognitions of former and current players. Following the game, both teams line up for the presentation of the Golden Football, followed by the playing of both schools’ alma maters.

The Crescent City Sports team is in its 12th season of producing live broadcasts for television and internet, having produced more than 400 live streams since 2012, and is continuing its extensive commitment to prep sports coverage on its website for 2022-23. This marks the 11th straight year the CCS team has produced the live broadcast of the Jesuit-Holy Cross game.
