Mount Carmel defeated Archbishop Hannan for the second time in four days on Tuesday, but this time was much tougher.

The Cubs, ranked No. 1 in the unofficial LHSAA Division I power ratings, needed five closely fought sets to dispatch the Hawks, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21, 26-28, 15-13. Hannan is ranked second in the Division IV power ratings.

Both teams competed last weekend in Mobile, Alabama, in the McGill-Toolen Catholic Cup, where MCA defeated Hannan in straight sets.

Also on Tuesday, Pope John Paul II and Northshore won four-set matches to set up their Wednesday showdown at PJP, which will be shown live on Crescent City Sports.

The Jaguars (15-1) defeated Cabrini 25-23, 25-19, 25-27, 25-11, dropping a set to an in-state opponent for the first time this season.

The Panthers (9-2) improved to 2-0 in District 5-I play with a 25-15, 25-17, 23-25, 25-5 victory over Mandeville.
