Tulane’s Melvin Frazier Named LSWA Men’s Basketball Player of the Month

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men’s basketball junior Melvin Frazier has been named Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) for the month of November, according to an announcement by the organization Tuesday evening.

Frazier averaged 19.9 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 60 of 96 (.625) from the field and 12 of 28 (.429) from 3-point range, helping the Green Wave to a 6-2 record through the first eight games of the season. He has scored at least 20 points in five of those eight games, including a 27-point performance at 13th-ranked North Carolina.

The Avondale, La., native has two double-doubles and was named MVP of the 2017 Jamaica Classic, as well as American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on November 20.

Frazier currently ranks first in the American Athletic Conference in steals per game, as well as second in scoring and field goal percentage.

Tulane returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 6 to host Southern at noon (CT) at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.

Tulane’s Kolby Morgan Named LSWA Player of the Month

NEW ORLEANS – After a stellar November that saw her average more than 20 points per game, Tulane senior guard Kolby Morgan was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Month on Tuesday afternoon.

Morgan continued her hot scoring streak last week, putting up 25 points at McNeese State on Wednesday and 20 at NC State on Sunday. She has scored at least 20 points in three straight games and five total games this year. Morgan has scored at least 17 points in every game this year.

As of Tuesday morning, Morgan ranked 14th in the nation in points per game (22.4), eighth in 3-pointers per game (3.75) ninth in 3-pointers made (30) and 14th in total points (179).

Morgan is now fifth all-time in Tulane history in scoring, passing her former high school coach Barbara Farris in late November. Morgan is now just 10 points away from fourth all-time in team history and is on pace to break the school record for points in a career by season’s end.

Tuesday’s honor is not Morgan’s first from the LSWA. She was named First Team All-Louisiana by the LSWA last year and was the group’s Freshman of the Year in 2014-15 as well as its November 2014 Player of the Month.

Morgan and Tulane will be on the court Tuesday night against local rival UNO before turning their attention Sunday to LSU at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. Tipoff Tuesday night is set for 7 p.m. with Sunday’s game against the Tigers beginning at 2 p.m.
