NEW ORLEANS – For the first time in over 40 years, Tulane will host LSU for a men’s basketball game inside Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse when the programs meet on Tuesday, October 31 at 7:30 p.m., in an exhibition contest to benefit those impacted by the recent hurricanes.

After approval for a waiver from the NCAA to play for charity, the game was approved.

“This is a cause that we are proud to support,” Tulane senior associate athletics director for administration Rob Bernardi said. “Many of our student-athletes and their families endured the effects of the hurricanes. A Tulane and LSU basketball game is good for the city of New Orleans and a fun way to start the college basketball season.”

General admission seating will apply for all fans with tickets priced at $5. All ticket sales as well as a portion of revenue from concessions will be donated to the American Red Cross. Fans in attendance will also have opportunities to donate, including a silent auction. The event will also include numerous Halloween festivities for families and children.

“We’re excited to partner with Tulane University and Louisiana State University on the upcoming charity basketball game,” said Joshua Joachim, Regional CEO for the American Red Cross of Louisiana. “Louisianans are known for their generosity and this is just one more example of that. Our friends and neighbors who’ve been devastated by the hurricanes over this summer will benefit greatly from this generous gift from Tulane and LSU.”

The Green Wave and Tigers share a storied history dating back to the first meeting in 1911. The programs last met in 2008, when Tulane earned a 68-63 victory at the Smoothie King Center, but the last matchup at Fogelman in Devlin occurred in December of 1974.

Like so many colleges and universities, Tulane University students, families and staff have been impacted by the devastation of the four hurricanes. This game against LSU will signify the latest outreach by Tulane to assist those affected by the natural disasters.
