Tulane faces Houston on Senior Day Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane football welcomes Houston to Yulman Stadium for Senior Day on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. on ESPNews. Fans are encouraged to arrive in the stadium early for Senior Day festivities, set to begin around 2:30 p.m.

SENIOR DAY
• Saturday’s game marks the final home game for 12 seniors – DE Ade Aruna, RB Sherman Badie, DE Quinlan Carroll, S Jarrod Franklin, LS Aaron Golub, RB Dontrell Hilliard, DE Luke Jackson, LB Rae Juan Marbley, CB Parry Nickerson, DT Paul Staudinger, DT Eldrick Washington and DT Sean Wilson. The seniors will be recognized on the field prior to kickoff.
• Hilliard and Marbley have been elected permanent captains for the 2017 season in a vote by their teammates.
• Former Tulane football player Devon Walker, who was injured and paralyzed during a 2012 game, is serving as honorary captain for the game.

ABOUT TULANE
• Tulane looks to put together a winning streak and keep its postseason hopes alive in its final home game of the 2017 season.
• A win over Houston would give the Green Wave the most conference wins in a season since becoming a member of the American Athletic Conference.
• Tulane is 4-1 in 2017 and 6-1 under head coach Willie Fritz when leading at halftime.
• Of Tulane’s 37 touchdowns scored so far this season, 18 have been with plays that went 20 yards or longer. The Green Wave’s six longest plays have resulted in touchdowns – three rushing (75, 72, 58) and three passing (73, 62, 62). In total, Tulane has converted 55 plays on offense and special teams of 20 yards or longer.
• The Green Wave enter the game ranked fourth in The American and 19th nationally in rushing offense at 244.1 yards per game.
• Tulane has rushed for 100 or more yards in 25 straight games, dating back to the final three games of the 2015 season.
• The Green Wave are tied for second in The American and tied for ninth in the nation in turnovers lost with nine.
• Tulane is second in The American and 17th the nation in time of possession per game at 32:29.
• Of Fritz’ 201 on-field victories, 64 have come on the NCAA Division I level (Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision).

ABOUT THE COUGARS
• Houston enters the game coming off a bye week, defeating ECU 52-27 on Nov. 4.
• With six wins, the Cougars are bowl eligible for a fifth straight season. The streak ties Navy for the longest streak in The American.
• Houston has scored in 221 consecutive games dating back to a 48-0 loss at No. 15 Texas on Sept. 23, 2000. Head coach Major Applewhite split repetitions at quarterback for the Longhorns in the game.
• The Cougars have nine touchdown drives that have lasted under one minute this season.
• Houston has forced 143 turnovers since 2013, the most among FBS schools. The Cougars have forced multiple turnovers in 49 of their last 69 games.

SERIES NOTES
• Tulane and Houston are meeting for the 22nd time on the gridiron with the Cougars leading the all-time series 16-5.
• Houston has won the last two and 12 of the last 13 games in the series.
• The Green Wave’s last win against Houston was a 42-7 on the Cougars’ home field on Nov. 8, 2014.
• Tulane’s last win against Houston in New Orleans was a 41-23 win in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Nov. 4, 2000.
• In every game in the series, the winning team has scored 20 or more points. In the last 11 games, the winning team has scored 30 or more points.
• Tulane is looking for its seventh conference win as member of The American with its previous wins coming vs. UConn and at Houston in 2014, vs. UCF in 2015, at UConn in 2016 and vs. Tulsa and at ECU in 2017.
