Angry Wave World Series Rosters

NEW ORLEANS – Through three games of Tulane baseball’s inaugural Angry Wave World Series, the Green team holds a 2-1 lead after picking up victories on Saturday and Sunday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

The White team won the series opener on Friday, 5-3, before Green won 4-2 on Saturday and 2-1 on Sunday. The series continues with Game 4 at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday. All Angry Wave World Series fall games are free and open to the public.

“For the most part, the three games have been very competitive and could have gone either way,” said head coach Travis Jewett, who is leading the Green team. “We’ll take a 2-1 advantage with Game 4 on Wednesday. There is a lot to like. The pitching has been doing well. I think some guys are starting to insert themselves into roles that maybe we see them being in. For the most part, the play has been pretty clean, and I’m excited about the way it’s going.”

Sophomore infielder Jonathon Artigues scored both runs for Green in Sunday’s victory, and hit the series’ only home run thus far on Saturday, leading Green to the win. He is batting .300 with four runs, two RBI, a double and three steals in three games of the series. Junior catcher Ty Johnson is hitting .500 with a pair of doubles and two runs in two games for Green, while sophomore Kody Hoese has hit .375 with three RBI and a double in three games. Freshman catcher Frankie Niemann is hitting .333 with two doubles and Green team captain Matt Rowland has a pair of hits and three walks.

Freshman infielder David Bedgood has hit .333 with a double for White, while junior catcher Acy Owen doubled and drove in a run last weekend. White team captain Grant Witherspoon tallied a pair of hits and an RBI, and freshman outfielder Andrew Gorham and freshman catcher Jake Revere each drove in two runs.

On the mound, several newcomers have made impressive performances in the series thus far. White team junior right-hander Trent Johnson struck out eight batters and allowed two runs in 4.2 innings, while Green junior right-hander Kaleb Roper allowed one earned run and struck out seven in 4.2 frames. White team graduate transfer right-hander Ben White and freshman right-hander Connor Pellerin each tallied five K’s in 4.1 and 4.2 innings, respectively.

Junior right-hander Ryan Green tossed 1.2 scoreless frames with three punch outs across two outings, junior Brandon Issa allowed no runs in two innings of work, and freshman left-hander Justin Campbell pitched 1.2 scoreless innings. White team junior right-hander Will McAffer struck out three and allowed no hits through 2.1 shutout innings, and Green team sophomore right-hander Keagan Gillies struck out four and worked around a run in 5.1 innings of work.

“We’re looking for competition,” Jewett said of the remainder of the series. “Two teams, two dugouts, two colors. It’s been fun to see the guys competing. We’ll take this five-inning game on Wednesday and let it spin us back into the weekend, and see where it takes us.”

The Angry Wave World Series continues this week, with a five-inning Game 4 on Wednesday at 3:50 p.m. The final three games – all seven innings – if necessary of the series are set for 4 p.m. Friday, 9:40 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
