The Saints released linebacker Gerald Hodges in order to make room for offensive tackle John Theus.

The 6-foot-6, 303 pound lineman was a fifth round pick of the 49ers in 2016, playing in five games with one start in San Francisco. He was released in September 2017, landing with the Panthers. Theus was placed on injured reserve in December and recently released by Carolina.

The Jacksonville, Fla. native was a three-year starter with the Georgia Bulldogs, making 14 starts as true freshman at right tackle and then totaling 21 starts on left side during his sophomore and junior seasons.

Theus has good reach, plays with solid technique and displays athleticism.
