A sports hernia kept four-time All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo from playing in Sunday night’s 108-95 preseason victory over his last employer, the Chicago Bulls.

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry would not speculate on the extent of the injury but said a timetable for Rondo’s return should become more clear when he sees a specialist in Philadelphia on Monday.

Sources familiar with the situation told The Advocate the initial expectation is Rondo will be out for approximately four weeks. Read more on the New Orleans preseason victory and Rondo’s value to the team here.
