SHREVEPORT – Reservations are being accepted for the annual Independence Bowl Foundation/Northwestern State Kickoff Luncheon next Thursday at Superior’s Steakhouse in Shreveport.

The 11:45 a.m. event will feature Demons head football coach Jay Thomas and NSU Director of Athletics Greg Burke speaking to the crowd.

Reservations are requested and can be made by calling the Independence Bowl office at 318-221-0712 or toll free at 888-414-BOWL (2695). The lunch carries an all-inclusive charge of $20 per person, and attendees are asked to please pay with cash if possible.

The event has been staged for well over 20 years each August. In 1996, the Independence Bowl/NSU Kickoff Luncheon was Burke’s first public function as AD.

“All of us at NSU look forward to holding this luncheon in a market that is so important to us,” Burke said. “We’re especially appreciative of the Independence Bowl committee for continuing to host this event, which creates a great deal of excitement about the upcoming football season.”

Thomas will preview the 2017 season and discuss the team’s progression through preseason camp. Northwestern State opens Sept. 2 at Louisiana Tech, with a Sept. 9 visit to Grambling following. NSU’s home slate starts Sept. 16 against Southland Conference opponent Lamar in Turpin Stadium.
