Red Stick Classic starts Wednesday featuring 10-team field

The Baton Rouge Catholic Bears will host the annual Red Stick Classic starting Wednesday.

The 10-team tournament includes the host Bears (10-4) who have been tested so far this year in winning their own tournament defeating St Thomas More and Zachary along the way. Catholic also played in the Country Day Classic where they defeated Rummel and McDonogh 35 before falling in close games to Country Day and Scotlandville.

Two teams earned byes based on their records before last week and they will not play until Thursday. One is the Division V state runner up from last year, Jehovah-Jireh (14-5), who have defeated two state title winners from last year including Division V Champion Crescent City and Class 5A Champion Landry-Walker. The other team is Division II State Champion De La Salle (8-6), the CYO Tournament Runner-up to St Paul’s.

Other teams competing include Vandebilt Catholic (1-2), Runnels (12-8), Family Christian (9-13), St. Michael (4-4), St. Charles Catholic (5-6), Central Baton-Rouge (6-5) and Parkview Baptist (0-15).
