Call it rare air.

St. Paul’s is in the midst of a potentially magical season and the Wolves got a magical performance from a star player Thursday night.

Senior guard Parker Edwards became just the second player in school history to eclipse 2,000 points for the Wolves. Edwards did it in style.

Needing 34 points to reach the magical mark, Edwards pumped in 36 points as the Wolves pummeled Fontainebleau 87-54 at home to cap an unbeaten mark in District 6-5A.

St. Paul’s controlled play from the start, taking a 22-13 lead after one quarter and expanding the margin to 45-26 at halftime. It was 65-36 after three quarters.

Edwards joins Scott Cyprien as the only members of the 2,000-point club in St. Paul’s basketball history. Cyprien graduated in 1991.

Gavin Gaude scored 11 points while Chandler Owenby chipped in with 10 for the Wolves (27-6, 14-0). Connor McCormick topped the Bulldogs (13-17, 5-9) with 19 points while Cameron Robinson added 17 points.

The Wolves, who have won six straight games, will play their regular season finale Friday night against Southern Lab at home at 6 p.m. St. Paul’s is a solid second-seed for the upcoming Division I state playoffs, behind only defending state champion Scotlandville.
