NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana lost some ground but held on to a spot Tuesday among the “others receiving votes” in the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

The Gold Nuggets (5-2) are 32nd after receiving six points in the second poll of the season. In the preseason poll they were 30th with 15 points.

XULA lost its first two games by double digits to preseason top-25 teams but has rebounded with a five-game win streak, including a 70-65 home decision Saturday against Our Lady of the Lake, which dropped from 13th to 17th.

Vanguard (6-0) received 8-of-9 first-place votes to climb from fourth to first. Freed-Hardeman (7-1) moved up one place to second.

The next rankings will be announced Jan. 2. The Gold Nuggets will begin fall semester academic final exams Wednesday, then return to the court Dec. 14 with an 11 a.m. game at NCAA Division I University of New Orleans.
