BATON ROUGE – During his pregame interview, St. Michael head coach Justin Hutchinson spoke of the dangers of giving up big plays against Lutcher.

“This Lutcher team is young, talented and fast. We need to keep them in front of us and not let them behind us.”

Hutchinson was prophetic much to his chagrin as the Bulldogs raced past St. Michael, 41-0, at Woodlawn High School.

Lutcher senior running back Daevon Adams scored on runs of 1, 32 and 50 yards to lead the Bulldogs. Quarterback Kolby Bourgeois was 10-for-13 through the air for 170 yards and two touchdowns while adding another 26 yards rushing.

Special teams also helped the Bulldogs courtesy of a 70 yard punt return.

St. Michael displayed a never-quit attitude late in the fourth quarter but failed to avert the shutout. Quarterback Kade Stuart finished 9-for-15 passing for 106 yards and running back Lance Robinson had 77 yards on the ground.

Lutcher’s 1-5 record coming into the night was no slight against this team. Last year’s Class 3A champions are retooled and improving rapidly.

St. Michael (2-5) will next face a tough Plaquemine High squad on the road next week, live on the JM Sports Network. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:30.
