MAUI, Hawaii –LSU freshman Tremont Waters dropped 39 points, but it was not enough as the LSU men’s basketball team fell to Marquette in the third-place game of the Maui Invitational, 94-84, Wednesday night.

The Tigers (3-2) return to action Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. CT against UT Martin.

Waters scored the most points in a game since Ben Simmons dropped 43 against North Florida in Dec. 2015. He also set the record for the most points by a Tiger in the Maui Invitational early. The previous LSU high was Duane Spencer who had 26 against Iowa in 1996, while the tournament record is 43 set by Adam Morrison of Gonzaga in 2005.
