Phillies RHP Aaron Nola

Former Catholic High and LSU pitcher Aaron Nola has won two straight games for the Philadelphia Phillies. On Sept. 13, Nola went seven strong innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out 11 in an 8-1 win over Miami. Last night, Nola pitched the Phillies to a 6-2 win over the Dodgers, going seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Nola is 12-10 with a 3.56 ERA for a losing team.

Another LSU ace, Kevin Gausman, has hit his stride. He has posted two straight brilliant outings for the Baltimore Orioles. In those two outings, Gausman has pitched 15 innings, allowing one run on nine hits, striking out 13. He got the win at Toronto on Sept. 13 before getting a no-decision, pitching eight scoreless innings last night against Boston. Gausman is 11-10 on the season.

Getting a shot to play, former Barbe star Gavin Cecchini went 3-for-4 with two RBI for the New York Mets in a 7-3 win at Atlanta on Sept. 16. Cecchini is batting. 224 in 25 games with two doubles, a home run and seven RBI for the Mets in 67 at-bats.

For the streaking Cleveland Indians, former LSU reliever Nick Goody has posted eight straight scoreless outings out of the bullpen, covering seven innings. In that stretch, Goody has allowed just two hits, striking out seven. He is 1-2 with a 2.58 ERA in 52 relief appearances.

Former Neville star Alex Presley of the Detroit Tigers homered, going 4-for-5 Tuesday night in a 9-8 loss to Oakland. Presley raised his batting average to .322 in 61 games played.
