Gold Nuggets start 3-1 for first time in volleyball program history

DEARBORN, Mich. — Xavier University of Louisiana defeated Lawrence Tech 25-20, 25-23, 24-26, 15-25, 15-12 and Fisk 25-12, 25-22, 25-14 Saturday in the UM-Dearborn Early Bird volleyball tournament.

It’s the first time that the Gold Nuggets have won 3-of-4 matches to begin a season.

Against Lawrence Tech, Juliana Tomasoni had 16 kills and two aces, and Jaida Dowd had nine kills. Against Fisk, Kayla Black had nine kills, and Anna Dalla Vecchia served four aces. Dowd, Black and Dalla Vecchia are freshmen.

It was the 12th time that the Nuggets won twice in one day and the first time since the 2015 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament

XULA’s home opener will start at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Mobile (8-0) at the Convocation Center.
