Delgado split a doubleheader against Meridian Community College Tuesday at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux.

In the first game, Lyall Ball walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to represent the winning run in Delgado’s 8-7 win over Meridian.

Delgado had trailed 7-6 going into their final frame before Hayden Fuentes led off with a walk, advanced on singles by Beau Freeman and Brandon Duhon and an intentional walk by Brandon Briuglio. Blake Way walked with the bases loaded to tie the game at seven before Ball’s go-ahead run won the game.

The Dolphins posted five runs in the third three singles by Brandon Duhon, Brandon Briuglio, Blake Way, and Hayden Funtes. Zach Roussel picked up his first win of the season, pitching 2.1 innings in relief of starter Mason Mayfield.

In the second game, the game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Meridian posted three runs behind three singles, a sacrifice bunt, and a hit batter. Two outstanding defensive plays at the plate closed the Meridian scoring.

In the sixth, Sam McWilliams’ RBI single plated Meridian’s fourth and final run of the game enroute to their 4-0 shutout of the Dolphins. Chris Turpin suffered the loss on the mound with Bryan Melendez and Kyle Flettrich appearing in relief.

Tuesday’s doubleheader marked the two program’s first meeting since the 2014 Region XXIII Conference Championship game.

Delgado will travel to Pensacola this weekend for a four-game series against Pensacola State, Wallace-Dothan, and Coastal Alabama-East.
