Copeland helps Cakes earn split in series at Redbirds

MEMPHIS – Scott Copeland allowed one run in six innings to help the New Orleans Baby Cakes defeat the Memphis Redbirds 7-3 in the series finale on Tuesday at AutoZone Park.

The ‘Cakes earned a split in the four-game series.

Peter Mooney hit a first inning home run, the New Orleans shortstop’s fourth home run of the season. He has hit home runs in three consecutive games.

The ‘Cakes offense pounded out 16 hits in the game, led by Grant Green four hits and three RBIs. Chad Hinshaw added three hits including a two-run double.

Copeland allowed a lead-off home run to Brevic Valera in the first. He then loaded the bases with no one out and then sent the Birds down in order with a pair of strikeouts and a groundout. Copeland earned his ninth win of the season.

The ‘Cakes grabbed the lead in the second with a two run double from Hinshaw.

NEXT HOME GAME: The ‘Cakes return home to The Shrine on Airline on Thursday, August 24th against Colorado Springs at 7:00pm.
