Cakes win thriller in The Springs, 11-10

Colorado Springs – The New Orleans Baby Cakes scored 11 runs on 14 hits and held on to win a slug-fest at Security Service Field, 11-10. The ‘Cakes had six players with multi-hit performances and Brian Anderson drove home three runs.

The ‘Cakes and Sky Sox battled back and forth and New Orleans scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull ahead. Starting pitcher Mike Kickham earned his second consecutive win. Severino Gonzalez got the final two outs in the ninth inning for his second save.

New Orleans led 11-6 heading into the ninth inning before the Sky Sox sent eight batters to the plate and scored four runs. Gonzalez came out of the pen to extinguish the rally.

The ‘Cakes have won back to back road games for the first time since mid July and improve to 47-71 for the season.

GAME NOTES: The start of the game was delayed for 23 minutes due to threat of rain, it was the seventh delay in the last nine days for the ‘Cakes. New Orleans won for the second consecutive night when trailing after six innings, the team is now 3-54 when trailing after six.

UPCOMING: New Orleans will continue a four-game series at Colorado Springs Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The ‘Cakes will start RHP Omar Bencomo against TBA.
