Basketball: Sacred Heart beats Newman, Country Day handled Haynes

In girls action, Academy of the Sacred Heart handled Newman 62-51 at home Wednesday.

The Cardinals (8-8) led throughout, taking a 15-9 lead after one quarter and 33-17 at halftime.  It was 43-27 after three quarters.

The Cardinals will play at their namesake, traveling to Academy of the Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau Saturday at 9 a.m. while the Greenies (5-7) return to District 12-2A Thursday at McGehee at 5 p.m.

Country Day handled Haynes 45-30 at home Wednesday.

The Cajuns (4-7) controlled play, leading 19-6 after one quarter before taking a commanding 31-11 lead into halftime. It was 41-22 after three quarters.

Kaci Chairs led the way, scoring 29 points for the Cajuns in a dominant performance. Jerriel McNutt topped the Yellow Jackets (6-10) with 11 points.
