Basketball: Riverside wins Sophie B. Wright Tournament
It is a surprise, perhaps a slump when Riverside Academy does not win a state championship for two consecutive years. That is how dominant and prominent of a program Timmy Byrd has built in Reserve.
The Rebels served notice that they are back after two years without winning a state championship.
Riverside captured the Sophie B. Wright Tournament, rallying past St. Thomas More to win 69-60 at SUNO in the title game Sunday.
The Cougars led 33-32 at halftime before the Rebels took control in the second half.
Alabama signee Jared Butler was named to the all-tournament team, along with Kash Foley. The Rebels (4-0) swept through a bevy of excellent teams, beating Bonnabel, Country Day, Sophie B. Wright and St. Thomas More to win the tournament.
Riverside returns to action tonight at Covington at 7 p.m.
