Basketball: Landry-Walker completes sweep of Karr
Playing a very challenging schedule is catching up a bit with Karr.
The Cougars are a good team. Their record may not reflect it.
Landry-Walker handed Karr its third straight loss, beating the Cougars 50-39 at Landry-Walker Thursday night. The win completed season sweep for the Chargin’ Bucs over their rival. Landry-Walker whipped the Cougars 90-42 on Nov. 23 with Karr missing some football players before the Chargin’ Bucs beat Karr 55-36 on Dec. 29 in the St. Augustine Tournament.
This time, the Chargin’ Bucs jumped on top 17-12 after one quarter and led 27-22 at halftime. It was 36-32 going to the final quarter, when Landry-Walker outscored Karr 14-7 for the victory.
Senior Semaj Matthews led a balanced attack for Landry-Walker (17-6) with 10 points while Tyrus Crawford and Jason Joseph each had nine points. Marc Bowie led Karr (12-10) with 11 points while Quindell Johnson added 10.
Landry-Walker opens District 8-5A play Tuesday at East Jefferson while Karr hosts Warren Easton Monday evening in District 9-4A action
