Rain played havoc with the prep baseball schedule throughout the metro New Orleans area Friday, including in the annual WGNO Baseball Classic.

Two games did take place.

At Noel Suarez Stadium, St. Paul’s hammered Chalmette 10-1.

The Wolves took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third before a rain delay struck. After resuming, the Owls tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third before freshman Connor Simon struck the big blow, belting a three-run home run to make it 4-1 in the top of the fourth. St. Paul’s (3-1) put the game away with six runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Due to rainouts at other sites in the tournament, St. Paul’s game against Franklinton scheduled for today at RBI Field has been canceled. The Wolves will next host John Curtis Christian Tuesday night.

The Patriots remained unbeaten with a 4-2 victory over Lutcher at the Comet/Lutcher Tournament. Jay Curtis delivered the big blow, belting a two-run home run in the third inning while Will Ripoll pitched five and a third innings, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out 10 to pick up the win. Ripoll also had an RBI single for the Patriots (3-0).

The other game that was played found West Ouachita shutting out Brother Martin 4-0 at RBI Field.

The Chiefs got a brilliant pitching effort from Peyton Parker, who hurled six shutout innings, allowing one hit, walking two and he struck out nine Crusaders to pick up the win, using 87 pitches. Parker also had a hit and an RBI at the plate. Caleb Rutledge pitched a scoreless seventh inning for West Ouachita (1-1).

The Chiefs scored twice in the top of the first inning, made it 3-0 with a run in the run in the third inning and scored their final run in the top of the seventh inning. Leadoff man Luke Honeycutt had a double, a triple and scored twice while Cayden Meeks and Connor Jones each had a hit and an RBI among the five hits for the Chiefs.

Patrick Kennair had the only hit for Brother Martin (1-2). Jacob Cohen absorbed the loss, going six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, walking two and striking out five while using 82 pitches. Dillon Fair pitched the final inning, allowing one run.

Brother Martin will play Ruston at RBI Field today at 9 a.m. while West Ouachita faces Jesuit at 9 a.m. at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. Jesuit will also take on Ponchatoula at 11:30 a.m. The Blue Jays had their game against Ruston Friday rained out.

Archbishop Rummel had it’s game with Fontainebleau postponed. The Raiders were scheduled to face Chalmette at Noel Suarez Stadium this morning but that game will not take place.

Instead, Rummel will play Franklinton at 11:30 a.m. before taking on Fontainebleau at 2 p.m. at Chalmette. The Demons will also play Archbishop Shaw first at 9 a.m. before the Eagles face Fontainebleau at 4:30 p.m. at RBI Field.
