Baseball Report: Slidell handles Grace King

Slidell went on the road Tuesday and came away with a convincing 9-2 victory over Grace King at Bonnabel Stadium in Kenner.

The Tigers jumped on the Fighting Irish quickly with a pair of runs in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead. After Grace King cut the deficit to 4-1 with a run in the bottom of the third, Slidell scored three runs in the top of the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 9-1. Grace King scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete the scoring.

Mason Mendoza led a 13-hit attack for Slidell (1-1) with two hits and two RBI and Cameron Weiss had two hits and drew a pair of walks for the Tigers. Weiss pitched four innings, allowing just one run and striking out three to pick up the win. Kody Bumb took the loss for Grace King, going three innings, allowing four runs.

The Tigers will return to Friday in the Slidell City Tournament, opening at 4 p.m. against Walker before facing Lakeshore, Pope John Paul II and Salmen. The Fighting Irish (0-1) will return to action Friday as well, hosting defending Division III state champion Riverside Friday at 4 p.m. at Mike Miley Stadium.
